Will a Pentium D cpu work in gateway 832gm model with a Pentium 4 630 cpu?

  1. My wifes comp is a gateway 832gm model with a Pentium 4 630 cpu the mobo is a intel 915gse. What i want to know is will a Pentium D cpu work in it? If not What is the fastest cpu i can get for it?

    Pentium Ds were not pin-to-pin compatible with old motherboards so it's most likely that it won't work.

    I agree with didou, you need to have 775 socket for the procesor

    Well it's quite hard to find any info on that motherboard so support for it is quite lackluster. Look around in your BIOS & see if there's any mention about dual-core in it. Unless it supports dual-core CPUs right now, it's safe to say you won't find a BIOS enabling it.
