Win 98 Re-install Problem

I think I may have really screwed up. Nevertheless, I was asked to upgrade a Win98 system to XP. The problem was when the system would not boot to Win98 due to a missing .vxd file. The system contained a OEM version of the software, recovery was not an option, due to the need to obtain 300 digital image files off the system. NO WAY to Back up.

Could boot to dos, used the uninstal.exe in windows and reloaded a fresh cut of Win98 to be able to get the files off the system and then move to the XP upgrade.

Problem - I can't find the .jpg files. I did not rename the old windows folder. They were stored in an sub-folder in my documents.

HELP - Thanks

Ouch. Looks like you have sent your images to the eternal hunting grounds....

Try this, go to a DOS-window and type in:
attrib c:\*.jpg /s >list.txt

Attrib is a lot faster than any Find-tool I know.

This should find any images that are still lurking and print their names/locations in the list.

For future reference: move the "My Documents" folder to a different partition/harddisk with the help of e.g. TweakUI.
In Word, Excel etc. go to Tools/Options/File Locations and change the location as needed.
