You are still showing at least two files you were told to have HijackThis fix:

Sorry xxdanielxx, I must be getting replies out of order- found this today- "what should i do next? i ran the trend micro scanner and it still came up with ADW_WINFIXER.X."
  5. jagurlie89 Newcomer, in training Posts: 38

I clicked the boxes to fix them in HijackThis. So im not sure why it didnt do it
  6. Blind Dragon TechSpot Evangelist Posts: 4,048

as I mentioned before you can't fix 023 entries (services) by fix checked thorugh hijackthis

    - you could use misc tools through hijackthis - delete and NT Service
    - you could send the user a .bat file to stop/delete the services

  7. xxdanielxx Newcomer, in training Posts: 1,214

Hmm but if the file is missing We still need to do this?

We need to get rid of one of the services running on your machine. To do this, copy (Ctrl +C) and paste (Ctrl +V) the text in the code box below to Notepad.

    Code:
    @echo off
    sc stop Windows SMX
    sc delete Windows SMX
    sc stop Windows AOLService
    sc delete Windows AOLService
    del service.cmd and exit

Save it to your desktop as File name: service.cmd
    Save as type: All Files

Once done, double click service.cmd to run it. A command window will open briefly, then close. This is quite normal.

then remove the services below using hijackthis

O23 - Service: SMX regulator (Windows SMX) - Unknown owner - C:\WINDOWS\winsmx.exe (file missing)
    C:\WINDOWS\winsmx.exe

O23 - Service: AOL Spyware Protection Service (AOLService) - Unknown owner - C:\PROGRA~1\COMMON~1\AOL\AOLSPY~1\\aolserv.exe (file missing)

now reboot and post a fresh hijackthis log
  8. Blind Dragon TechSpot Evangelist Posts: 4,048

;) all the 023 entries are telling you is that the service is running. Whether the file is there or not the service is. Thats what the .bat file is for - After running .bat the entries will be gone from hijackthis, but it still a good idea to delete the files - they aren't always missing

    thanks will remember.

BD, when you check a Service in HijackThis, it stops the Service, but doesn't remove it. It that correct? But if it's a Service that is not wanted, it should be stopped first- this disables it. Then is can be removed.

I am not sure about Services, but I know when uninstalling a program, the program must not be running or the uninstall usually isn't complete. So I''m thinking Disabling the Service first, then using DeleteNT would work. Yes?
