Windows 10 is the name of Microsoft's next-generation operating system

Most of these responses are either ignorant or FUD (or both). The best one: "Windows 10. How gay." Really?

"You know what I'm going to do? I'm going to leave your words right up here for all my classes to enjoy, giving you full credit of course, Mr. Spicoli."

"All right!"

Yes, it is gay. Stop with the damn numbering system already. What will it be called in 9 years? Windows 19? Windows Threshold would have been acceptable Windows TH. And your the one spewing FUD.

"Windows 10 is such a substantial leap, according to Microsoft's executive VP of operating systems, Terry Myerson, that the company decided it would be best to skip over Windows 9, the widely expected name for the next version."

The number 9 was, in fact, skipped. And it was on purpose and deliberate. Not because the next real version is 10.

Looks as bloated as my xbox one, hopefully it can play videos from a flash drive, because my xbox one can only play certain files. VLC is like 10 years old get with the times....

Gee, why not called it Windows X and release regular incremental updates named after lions, tigers or bears. Oh my!

Although am not a fan of windows, I have to admit this looks interesting... I'l check it out and see how it compares to the previous releases.

Have to agree with the guest above about the ignorance of the morons that seem to be commenting. Windows 8 wasn't half as bad as people made out. 8.1 was even better. I've never once had it crash. 100% stability is no mean feat.
Win 10 looks better still. By building a unified architecture across all platforms including servers ms actually beat everyone else. This is something all other os designers are trying to achieve.
The complaints about the name are desperate. From what I understand another reason is 9 in Japanese is pronounced 'ku' which is the same pronunciation for their word for suffering. I don't speak Japanese though so that might not be dead right.

Give Windows 10 away for free to all windows 7, and 8 users and maybe than you will have adoption rates that compare to Apple OS's. That is the goal after-all, for more people to use it...seeing as Windows 8 completely failed because it was garbage. Still using windows 7 and have no plans whatsoever to upgrade unless its free.

If Windows is looking to the future by naming it Windows 10, why is this Joe Belifore guy in the video still sporting that Flock of Seagulls hairdo?

Too close to Windows XP.

Yeah, good thing they moved it 2 numbers up to Windows 10. The number 9 was too close to 8. :) *sigh*. Close call. Confusion avoided. The number 8 looks like a 9 too. If you have less than 20/20 vision from a 100 feet away.

""Windows 10 will run on the broadest amount of devices. A tailored experience for each device," Myerson said at a press event here Tuesday.

I guess there is hope. It only took them...what...2 years too realize that were not all chimpanzees? They got some thinkers in that thar outfit at Microsoft. Really keen devils they are.

Now, if they can pair that reality up with the fact that quad-core PCs eat tablets for breakfast...the next iteration....or the evolving Windows might eventually morph into something businesses and power users want.

It took me a while to get used to windows 8, and now I loved it! And yes, the 2x2 grid is a major improvement of how we are using an OS! Looking forward!

Obviously you didn't read the post where I quoted Vice President of operating systems Terry Meyerson who explains why they skipped the number 9. The Japanese story is fascinating but has nothing to do with skipping the number 9.

Oh, by the way, I hear that Linux operating systems have been rock solid in terms of stability for years. Bet you haven't been using Linux for years though huh? I guess the success or failure of an operating system has to be measured by more than just 1 metric. The stability of my Windows 7 system has kept me happy enough to remain where I am for the past 2 years. So, it's really touting a feature that doesn't have significant gains over it's predecessor in my opinion. Who's next? I'm in Windows 10 crucifixion mode.

Just kidding kinda. There is hope but it just doesn't look like it's there just yet.

I kind of like it. I guess I will decide in the end but it seriously has potential. I will most likely install the preview tomorrow in a VM.

Maybe Microsoft should talk to the creator of the Final Fantasy series about their naming system. Maybe get a few tips... Windows 8 - 2 sounds good!

I'm actually optimistic about this. Lots of time to develop and they are actually soliciting user's experiences as they use the technical preview. Still not into 'the Cloud' and the Microsoft Store and it all linked with a MS account tied to your computer, but the OS itself could be quite good

It doesn't bother you that M$ is going for, "Apple Zen"? In which the OS, the M$ Cloud, the M$ App store, and the user's wallet are all one?

Of course the sad thing is that the most important news about this new release isn't the technical content, but its name: "Forget about Windows 9, that would have been Microsoft's next OS under Steve Ballmer. The company is taking a more radical approach with its most treasured product."

Yes, the fact that they skipped 9 must mean that this is revolutionary... (And of course that Windows 7 is now waaaaaaay obsolete. Running 7 when 10 is available? No effing way!)

Marketeers and journalist that blindly copy their words: Loathe them or leave them - you're not allowed to hit them with a shovel.

Hey everybody, lets complain about how they removed the start menu, now let's complain because they put it back!

I'm not sure if the hate-wagon is full already.

I'm too an optimistic, this sounds great specially the integrated virtual desktops and the ability for easier side by side windows. I'm smelling 4k ready desktops.

Loved W8 and still do, with all the performance improvements and features can't figure out how narrow-minded some folks are but... to each their own. Like most have said already, once they get past Metro UI it's a great system. If you don't feel like updating because your version is the loved one it's fine, I don't like the free crap spreading though.

This looks like what Windows 8 should have been. I'll finally upgrade and make the jump from Windows 7 to Windows 10. I just hope they put some more bells and whistles in the OS.

Ubuntu, that is all.
