windows 2000 pro upgrade

I have windows 2000 professional installed on a dell latitude C600. Can I upgrade to Windows XP professional without losing any data or applications on the computer? Will it simply overwrite 2000 professional? Thank you

You should really confirm the upgrade path at Dell. Confirm driver/program updates for your model .Print instructions and download everything needed.
Portables use very unusual OEM hardware/programs. You will want to follow them properly.
