windows 98 crashing

  1. steve m. Newcomer, in training

    I am attempting to install an external usb cdrw. After installing the driver, I plug in the device and my pc crashes(freezes...screen black with a few spots showing the desktop). I have to manually shut down and reboot windows.
    What might be causing this problem? Steve M.

    Is it 98SE? If you have AMD CPU and VIA USB, try this fix.

    If you have a normal 98, not second edition, I'd recommend to upgrade (if possible), because second edition fixes some USB things.
