Windows Icons Placement - Dumb Question

I am working up a new install of Windows XPH, and don't remember a simple task. The client wants the start-up screen icons split up so that Windows Explorer, Recycle Bin, and his Heart Attack warning icons are on the right side of the screen... and all other icons are on the left side of the screen.
I am having a difficult time remembering how to do this... Any icons that are dragged to one location, always suddenly slip back to the left side of the screen.
Can someone younger and smarter, with a memory that works, tell me how to do this simple task? It is on an IBM Thinkpad X41...

Solution

Disable "Auto Arrange"
Right click on desktop --> Arrange Icons By --> Uncheck "Auto-Arrange"

Right click the desktop and select Arrange Icons by, make sure that Auto arrange is unticked. You should now be able to place the icons where you want.
