Windows logs off immediately after it boots up!!

  1. My laptop boots up as normal, the desktop wallpaper shows without any short cuts and then I get automatically logged off and the Windows XP Home select user log in page is displayed. I select myself and the screens displays the 'loading personal settings' page and then automatically logs out. This also occurs in Safe Mode and I cannot access my hard drive.

I have recently been having problems with spyware http://www.techspot.com/vb/newthread.php?do=newthread&f=15#
evil (internet optimzer, winfixer etc) and deleted the programme files that I believed to have contained. Could I have accidentally deleted a programme that Windows needs to boot up?

Has anyone had this problem before?
