Hi

I have one of my childrens PC's to fix and would be grateful for your help, its spec is as follows;

COMPAQ Presario, Intel Celeron 900Mhz, 128Mb SDRAM, 20Gb HDD with Windows Millenium (Home Edition), unfortunately no O/S disk supplied (bought from PC Wrld).

Problem:[/B]
Can log in (takes an age...). But, as soon as Desktop appears, the following message appears;

"Error Starting Program
The C:\windows\system\winmm.dll file appears to be corrupt. Reinstall the file and then try again
"

Then, the following message appears, after clicking on OK;

"a required .dll file, c:\windows\ntyv.exe was not found"

and finally, the following message after clicking on OK;

"a device attached to the system is not functioning"

Attempts to open programs then causes the system to freeze, which eventually nessesitates a reboot

Help appreciated, thanks

JonB

Windows ME is NOTORIOUS for crashing - it self corrupts. get XP home or 98 and reinstall everything.

Use a good program like registry mechanic or norton systemworks to fix your issues.
