hi all:

merry Xmas!!

I just installed windows XP Pro on my notebook(HP n3310). everything is fine except windows media player will not load. I click any icon or shortcut for it and all I get is an xp error message saying that "it caused an error".

specs:

HP n3310
184mb ram
4gb HD
550 AMD k-6

any suggestions are greatly appreciated.

if possible, try installing service pack 1 and then go to windowsupdate.microsoft.com and install all sensible looking updates. there will probably be a new version of media player.

your problems could also be caused by a corrupted codec. if you have installed anything like divx, etc, then reinstall it.

new graphics drivers may also help you.

Thanks for the help

hi:

thanks for the knowledge...I will apply it to see any change. Yes!...windows media player isn't really that great,I agreed. However, this app, like other microsoft apps, seem to be "intergrated" with the windows OS and is therefore crucial. I once had a problem where i wanted to use Foxmail instead of Outlook express, that caused many problems.

winamp and music match are my favorites.

happy holidays

XP on a N3310

Isent the N3310 a little lite for XP?
I would want at least 1Ghz under the processor
