Windows Updates

  1. i received new updates three days ago. since then i have problems running automatic updates. usually i keep the update service off, and use my security suite to let me know of vulnerabilities.
now since that update i have a process called svchost.exe that runs at 80% to 90% when the auto update is on. this causes my pc to freeze and cpu has topped out. if i stop this service it affects the appearance of xp task bar.
once i have disabled A.U, everything runs normal. weired or what??

went HERE Howard before i got your message. followed instructions, then rebooted. on start-up updates started immediately, then installed themselves. now it works fine..... only thing is, i don't know for sure if that fixed it or it was an identical download. i suppose that the first update was corrupt or the install was. nevertheless. its OK now.
    thanks!!
