Total Noob here so please be kind ...
My roommate thought that a "briefcase" was exactly the same as a "folder" but with a cooler icon. So, he moved all of his college work (mostly word documents) into the briefcase. Since there's a fancy "update documents" button, he thought, why the hell not? He updated and, as we are not connected to a network (other than our DSL), all of his files disappeared.
I tried running a system restore (maybe that was a mistake?) which retrieved the original folder containing all his work, but the folder was empty of documents.
So, is there any way to retrieve these files?
