Windows XP Home - unresponsive after clicking on My Computer, Control Panel, folders?

Hi there,

I have recently reloaded Windows XP Home Edition on my computer. I also updated Spybot and Adaware. Neither program picked up anything serious are the initial run.

However this morning I booted up and now when I click on a folder, My Computer or Control Panel the computer doesn't do anything. At all. I can move the mouse. If I right click I get the hour glass and then again no reaction.

I can't even run HJT because I have no direct link in Start Menu or on desktop (won't make that mistake again!).

Someone has to have had this issue before!! I have been trying to fix it for at least four hours now, so a little frustrated... I have been through everything listed on this page (https://www.techspot.com/vb/topic17297.html)
except the HJT part and still no cigar!

Can someone help me? I am going to re-download HJT and run it now. Will post HJT file shortly.

You have atleast 1 nasy entry there.

You need to read the sticky threads in the Security and the Web forum then make a post there.

In particular, read step 5 closely.
