Windows XP install stupid question

Got hold of a copy of XP and want to dump my 2K professional. Do I have to reformat my hard drive? I'd say probably yes but wanted some expert advice.

No you don't.

If you run the setup program off the CD while in 2k then it will upgrade your Windows installation neatly.

If you boot the CD then you can choose whether to format the system partition or install Windows XP alongside 2k.
