Windows XP is deselecting my windows

  1. Hi All

Gotta a problem here. I am running XP and working in programs (Like Finale for music composition) and every once in while my computer will deselect the window I am working in for no good reason. It doesn't select a new one, it just makes my active window not-active.

Nothing pops up, no calculator, no windows key, no error messages, nothing.

It will also take me out of games (Like an alt tab) for no reason that I can see. It doesn't end the program or anything, I can just click on the game on my taskbar and get right back into it.

Any ideas or has anyone heard anything like this happening?

    Thanks.

My first guess would be spyware/malware or a virus. Have you run utilities to check for these things?

If you don't have a virus scanner, http://free.grisoft.com and if you don't have a spyware scanner, www.lavasoft.com

Well I run Adaware and spybot. I'm going to try CCleaner today and see if that cleans anything up. Virus-wise I will check that site you showed me.

I'll repost again if that doesn't clean it up.

    Hello and welcome to Techspot.

If malware is suspected, go and read this thread HERE and post a HJT log as an attachment.

I agree. Also check to see what's running in the background (msconfig) after your virus/spyware cleanup.
