Windows xp on lan does not connect to the internet

HI,

SPECS MENTIONED BELOW

I am unable to connect to the internet using windows xp. It was working fine all this time but suddenly(2 days back) it stopped connecting to the internet.
I am able to connect to the internet using Fedora Core 4 so i know there is no problem with the computers hardware or my ISP.

I am unable to ping my gateway (request timed out) and any website that i try to connect gives me the following error msg(in opera) "could not locate remote server."

Ive tried to uninstall and reinstall the ethernet card but everytime i do it XP recognises it as another adapter giving it a new name (Local area connecton #2, #3, #4 and so on) but does not connect to the internet.

What is wrong? Could it be my Qos Packet sheduler or my Winsock??

Please help me.

have you set your workgroup on both computers to be the same (this sometimes is easier for networking)
have you got the same range of ips? e.g. 192.168.0.xxx
have you got a dns server?
is your cable connected to the hub/ethernet card/other computer?
have you got a firewall installed? is it working properly?

Hi,
Thanks for replying
I have onlyonly one computer which has a lan card which is connected to the router which connects my ISP.

Here is my connection setting

I have windows firewall installed but the internet connection does not work even if it is turned off.

everytime i uninstall and then reinstall the ethernet adapter in the device manager i get a pop up from microsoft antispyware but i click ignore

PLS HELP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

with pc on unplug router(power down)
power up .
I had issues while configuring my net that for some reason the router had to be reloaded.
if you don't need it disable dhcp in router

Ive tried doing this as well.

Removed the cable from my ethernet car... restart...after loging in...insert the cable to the ethernet card and turn on the router.

But the problem still remains.

Horray!!!!! I can connect to the internet!!!!!!!!!!

I guess the problem was with my ethernet driver

Previous Driver:-
AMDTEK AN983 based ethernet adapter
Current Driver:-
AMDTEK AN983B XP DRV 219

After installing the new driver i restarted the system connect the cable and turned on the router.
Then went to my connection properties and gae in my ip, dsn...etc

Then tried connecting to google and lo belold.... i was able to see the webpage.

Thank you for all the help and support that was provided.

Faheem.
