Windows XP Port Speed

In an attempt to improve connection speed on my dialup modem, I reset the port speed to 115200. However, after checking Windows System Information, I found that the port was still being reported at 9600. I can only assume that the latter figure is correct, but is there some way besides the simple Windows settings to adjust the actual speed?
