Windows xp restart

This morning my pc shut down three times because of current outage.so when I booted it again there was a question for safe mode,normal operation etc..I tried each of them.windows seemed to start but after 2-3 seconds the system restarted.
what I ve done so far is:
I have unplugged for half an hour the pc
I have removed bios battery for 5min
I have used the chkdsk and the fixboot and the fixmbr on repair console option via cd installation
there is no repair option though on the cd

any help?

Go into safemode if it goes there successfully then your windows is corrupt, if not then there is a problem with your hardware. Reply me the results and then I'll tell you the further details.

Well I ve just fixed it..firstly it didn go into safe mode. I booted from windows cd and selected r(repair console) where I typed chkdsk /r. it checked my hard disk and then it booted from safe mode once and then normally.
