  1. Hey, first time poster here. I tried to re-format my HDD; and usually all goes well. This time it didn't go so well....I got that error in the subject line there "An Internal error has occurred. Could not find a place for a swap file." after executing d:\i386\winnt in DOS
Not sure what went wrong...any help appreciated. thanks!

How big is your HD and how is it partitioned. Is it formatted?
And is d: a second harddisk, or a second partition?

Hey, the hard drive is an 80gb; and it's 1 full partition, and formatted. D is my cd-rom/dvd drive.

Using a W98 boot-floppy, delete and make that partition again, using FDISK. Make it active.
Then from that same floppy type in format c: /s. Then it should work.
Let XP reformat/convert in NTFS when it gets there during install.
