System is very slow, after logging in it takes 5-10 minutes to load the network connection icon in the system tray. The system responds to events very late. Tried other postings on this website and installed various softwares like,

1. SmitFraudFix
2. ATF-Cleaner
3. Bulldogs_Security_Suite_v1
4. drweb-cureit (Dr.Web)
5. HijackThisSetup
6. killbox
7. mvc2007us
8. Pareto_AS_Setup248
9. RegSupreme_setup
10. RegSupremePro_setup
11. spybotsd14
12. VundoFix

nothing worked out. Please help. Trend micro says PE_Generic and Trojan_Generic virus found. But none of the above tools really helps. Some of the above like VundoFix and all says trojan removed, but the system is still behaving the same way.

Hope you reply to this soon.

Thanks,
Saneesh Kumar

Hello and welcome to Techspot.

I have moved your thread to our Security and the Web forum.

Very Important: Before deciding whether you should clean or reformat your system, go and read this thread HERE and decide what it is you want to do.

If after reading the above, you wish to clean your system, do the following.

Go and read the Viruses/Spyware/Malware, preliminary removal instructions. Follow all the instructions exactly.

Post fresh HJT, AVG Antispyware and Combofix logs as attachments into this thread, only after doing the above.

Also, let me know the results of the AVG Antirootkit scan.

Regards Howard

Your system is infected with several nasties.

Please follow the instructions and post the requested logfiles as attachments.

There is good advice on the referred sites from Tedster.

I am always amazed at those who do not know the basic maintenance to do on a computer system, and that is has to be done regularly. Too many accept the abundance of programs or apps on the start-up tab using msconfig. Virtually every program and app installed on a system will put itself there. This means that each one has to load at boot and that it will also run in the background.

So whether you have malware or not, first order of business is to STOP all unnecessary processes from starting up. Second is to uninstall anything you don't use or need in Add/Remove Programs in the Control Panel.

More of the maintenance requires disc clean-ups, lower the number of days for History to remain. Do the Error Check followed by Defrag. Then check the system for spyware/adware.

You need to understand a difference here: a slow computer and a slow Internet connection are NOT the same thing. The information above will speed the startup and performance of the system, but the Internet connection is dependent upon the ISP and the type of service you have.

So no matter how clean your system is, if you have a dial-up service and the ISP has put too many users on the same base, the connection will be slow. This also applies to DSL.

Where are the rest of the requested logfiles?

Unless you follow the instructions properly, I can`t help you.

Regards Howard :)

I am doing the other scans now. Will post the remaining logs and reports in another 1-2 hours time. Please wait.

Thanks,
Saneesh

Please find combo fix logs, AVG Antispyware & Rootkit were terminated before I came back from lunch.

Please do wait for those.

1. Please download The Avenger by Swandog46 from HERE. Save it to your Desktop and extract it.

2. Download the attached avengerscript.txt and save it to your desktop

Note: the above code was created specifically for this user. If you are not this user, do NOT follow these directions as they could damage the workings of your system.

3. Now, start The Avenger program by double clicking on its icon on your desktop.

Under "Script file to execute" choose "Load script from file".
Now click on the folder icon which will open a new window titled "open Script File"
navigate to the file you have just downloaded, click on it and press open
Now click on the Green Light to begin execution of the script
Answer "Yes" twice when prompted.

4. The Avenger will automatically do the following:

It will Restart your computer. ( In cases where the code to execute contains "Drivers to Unload", The Avenger will actually restart your system twice.)
On reboot, it will briefly open a black command window on your desktop, this is normal.
After the restart, it creates a log file that should open with the results of Avenger’s actions. This log file will be located at C:\avenger.txt
The Avenger will also have backed up all the files, etc., that you asked it to delete, and will have zipped them and moved the zip archives to C:\avenger\backup.zip.

5. Please attach the content of c:\avenger.txt into your reply, as well as a fresh HJT, Combofix and AVG Antispyware logs.

A suspicious process in the process list

Please check the exe marked yellow in the attachment. This process when killed comes during next restart with some other name.

Thanks,
Saneesh

That file is part of your Trend antivirus and is nothing to worry about.

Your HJT log is clean.

Uninstall one of your antivirus programmes, either Trend or AVG. This is because running more than one antivirus programme will slow your system down and can cause serious conflicts.

Once you`ve done that, do the following.

Turn off system restore.(XP/ME only) See how HERE.

Now, turn system restore back on. This will have deleted all your old restore points and any nasties that are in them. It will also have created a new, clean restore point.

If you have any further virus/spyware problems, please post in this thread.
