WindowsXP will not switch users

Hello all:

I have a strange problem with XP Media center edition 2004 SP2 ,Yesterday I had the annoying problem of logging off instantly upon trying to log on ,I have booted to the OS choosing menu ,and I have choosen (Last known good configuration) ,it worked and I have logged on succefully ,but now I have another problem which is I am unable to switch users! ,wheN I click on switch user nothing happens and it gives me the (This system is in use and has been locked ,only (user name here) or an administrator can unlock this computer ) and I enter the password to be back again to the same user's account ,any suggestions?

the XP logon should show all users known to the CP->User Accounts
(ok, XP Pro is a tad different here). Make sure all user account other than
Guest are enabled and reset the passwords while you're there.
