I had this problem too.I examined all of this ways but ...
I downloaded 6 parts of a RAR file from RaphidShare. when i wanted to Extract them, this message was appeared. Then after researching i found this way:
At first you must download and install "Total Commander" software(it is about 3 or 4 MB). then combine your files(FILE | Combine command). you obtain a file with .out extension. Then change it to .RAR and extract it.

check the properties of the drive you are extracting to see if it fat32 or NTSF

I think this error means that there are some kind of problems with the system. I extracted it on my desktop just fine, then went to extract it on a laptop and have received this error with every attempted version of winRar. I had WinRar on this laptop before, and didn't have any problems. Yes trying a different extraction file will probably work, but that doesn't alleviate whatever was causing the issue with WinRar.

Perhaps a bit late to reply to this topic, but what the hey.
Here's a thought: I extracted a .RAR file with 7-zip (portable version) and got the "CRC failed etc." error too.
But as the original file had been split into four seperate .RAR files, I then tried to extract those four .RAR files in one batch.
No error message this time, all the extracted files got combined into the original file.
Is this helpful at all ?

    Sure. :grinthumb

I'm not the one who posted the problem.. but still helpful to have the info and tuck it away for future use

    thanks all

I'm new to this board, but I must say that y'all have some excellent advice! I just got ALZip (thanks Crazy) and it totally eliminated my CRC errors. Thanks again as this has been bugging me for weeks now!

7Z is a great compression/decompression program and best of all it's free.
