WinXP logging out on it's own

Hi everyone,

I have an emachine (I know) that when I try to login to one of it's accounts, it appears to start up, but after a few seconds, it logs me back to the welcome screen. I have tried to go into safe mode with the same result..I do see some type of warning screen during login, but it is so fast, I can read it.....Has anyone heard of this happening?...How can I get in with out having to reload XP?

Any help would be appreciated.....BB

You can try running CheckDisk from bootup info h e r e

Or try the Ultimate Boot CD for Windows to help backup your important data. The link also includes help installing Windows clean
This boot disc can also help in scanning your system for malware

Thanks Kimsland....I was able to run chkdsk...It found a few errors, but that failed to restore it....In other posts, I read where the "userinst.exe" was the same on all XP's, so I tried this:

I removed the hardrive from the problem PC and hooked it up to my other PC as a USB drive...I then copied its file to the correct location on the problem drive...It booted up fine...Not sure if this is the correct way of fixing this problem, but it worked for me....BB
