Wiping disc and reinstallation of win xp pro

I lost my internet explorer now- even went through uninstall of ie7 and ie6 won't function-can't even connect to internet now. But i think problem is that I inherited pc. can I wipe the drives and reinstall with my xp discs even though I have no discs for the pc itself without completely messing up the pc? also have all discs for other applications i want to install.

Try switching to Firefox- That should solve most of those problems.
