wondering mouse......

Ok, i have a Dell latitude laptop with a touch pad however i have an external optical USB mouse plugged in. Now whether I use the external mouse or not the mouse has a mind of it's own at times and decides to wonder aimlessly around the screen until it gets tired and stops allowing me control again.....Any idea on how to fix this problem other then getting a mouse trap?

I have that problem with an old Toshiba laptop. If I boot with the mouse plugged in it goes crazy. If I plug it in anfter I get to the desktop, it works fine. Never could figure out why. Another thing about optical mice. I have a lot of cats, and if a cat hair gets into the opening where the light is, it gets all jerky on me and I have to get the hair out by blowing or carefully using a tweezer. If it is a USB mouse have you tried to use an adapter to plug it into the PS/2 port?

make sure u have up to date drivers
