Hi all,

New here so sorry if doing this wrong?
I have a new radeon x700 card instaled and it does a wonderful job except when I try and run Medal of honour breakthrough. and seeing as that the only game I play it needs sorting.
it sometimes runs, sometimes does'nt, and some times returns me directly to the desktop but often just freezes and only a manual reboot will get me out.
I have updated the driver to 5.8 but still the same so went into the error log on the "system" file for ATI and it gave me this message: - "error, ACPI BIOS is attempting to read from an illeagal i/o port address [0xcfc] which lies in 0xcf8-0xcff protected address range. this could cause system instability..."
-can anyone help with the root of my problem please?- it would be much appreciated.
Thanks - Steve..

Hello! Welcome to TechSpot

What model is the soltech MoBo?
Chipset too...
If needed use Everest Home
it's free and will give you hard to find info on your system.

Thanks for the reply, and I used the everest product - What a brill product!
results are as below:-
Soltek SL-75JV(-X)/JVS/KAV(-X)/KIV/KV(-X)/KV+(-X)/KV2(-X)
VIA VT8363A Apollo KT133A

Is there any other info you may need to try and help?

Thanks

Things to try

No I think we can sort it out from here.
Do you have hybernate enabled?

There are new via chipset drivers, Hyperion 500a & Hyperion 4 in 1.
HERE

ACPI=Advanced configuration power interface.
It controls standby functions etc.

I suggest checking the bios power settings,
turn control off there and let XP handle it.
Check for a fresh bios update may fix it too.

btw
Thanks for filling out your profile :grinthumb

Hi Socrates,
Thanks very much for the help so far. I've dl'd and installed the hyperion 4in1 (best I thought for 32bit) and the screen instantly looks more deeper in colour(maybe just me). I tried to turn off acpi in the bios settings but it will not run the system in safe, last good or normal so i went back in and "enabled" it and started fine, so...?
Can you help me with the bios update please..instruction for an amature would be appreciated lol!
I have not tried the gaming yet but will in a mo..

Thanks again..

Steve

Hmmm?

This seems to be the latest, not very recent.
This is where to get things from soltech
Try the game that was giving you trouble....at this time I do not recommend
bios update.
How about the hybernating?
right click the desktop, select properties,
go to screen saver tab, press the power button,
Select the hybernation tab...
I recommend turning it off,
unless you are accustomed to use it...

Socrates - cheers, sorry forgot to mention - I checked the hibernate and it was off - lol.

I will try the game now and let you know...

Cheers,

I will come back and let you know - your a star! cheers...

Hi,
I played the game online and after about 10 mins it just shut down and restarted on it's own, no problems with reboot just straight back to desktop through password.

I have signed up to send a full error report to microsoft and am going to play again and get a crash to send the report..

What to do know? do you think it could be my power supply? it's new but only a 300watt model?

Thanks,

Steve

What is the model info of the psu?
How is your machine running games offline?
I'm heading out fro now, will be back l8tr 2nite...
G'Luck

PSU unit is Jeantec,ATX-3001-200
games running offline appear to be just the same if not a little worse?

System Requirements:

* PCI Express® Model Requirements
o PCIe based PC with one X16 lane graphics slot available on the motherboard
o An additional connection to the system's power supply is not required
* AGP Model Requirements
o AGP 8x or 4x graphics slot available on motherboard
o Connection to the system power supply is required, adapter included
o 300W power supply or greater recommended
* 256MB of system memory
* Installation software requires CD-ROM drive
* DVD playback requires DVD drive

You are at the bare min for psu, actually below it...
Check this LINK
Your psu company would'nt give any info...
I'm thinking you need to be in the 425w range, this could be the whole cause
of problem...

Cheers again socrates..

I've made my choice from your link - I'm going for the fortron 530w for sure. That way when I get this comp sorted I am going to build myself a new machine amd I will strip it out and install in the new in a couple of months.

I will let you know how I get on, should have a psu by sat latest!

Got to go now it early am here and work in the morning.

Thank you.. be back soon!

Ta Steve
