XP crashes and reboots

For quite a period of time I have experienced very much annoying troubles with my PC:
System: Pentium 4 3.0 GHz, 1 GB RAM, XP Professional, Service pack 3.

1. Occasionally XP crashes and following reboots. Windows will then announce that it has restored after a critical failure, requesting to post the error information, which Microsoft cannot determine and provide a solution for.

EVENTlog shows EVENTid1003 Category(102) Source: System Error

Errorcode; 1000008e, parameter 1 c0000005, parameter 2 8056ed7b, parameter 3 b11b9970, parameter 4 00000000.

I have attached the two latest minidump files.

2. Every time I close down my PC it will reboot. In order to close down the PC I have to press the start button for > 10 seconds while rebooting. This produre may be performed once or twice.

I have in this forum noticed other persons with the similar troubles that apparently have received good advice and help. So I hope for the same experience.

Thank you in advance

check the following:

1. drivers
2. registry. Download crapcleaner (CCleaner) and run registry repair. you can also run CKDSK C: from windows but it is slow and inefficient.
3. check ram - run memtest 86+ booted from CD or floppy
4. check PSU (use a tester tool and multimeter)
