XP not finding hard drive

In the past couple of days, my computer has been freakin out. Tonight, I reinstalled XP from the CD. Now, windows seems to be working ok. However, I have a second hard drive which is partitioned into two parts. The computer still reads from the first partition fine but it won't recognize the second partition (E drive) at all. Keep in mind, there was no problem before I reinstalled XP and updated everything. What can I do?

Right click on "My Computer" and select "Manage"

When the MMC opens up, click the "Disk Management" tool

Find your secondary HDD in the list, and see if the 2nd partition is detected. If it is, right click on it and see if you can select "Change Drive Letter... " or "Assign Drive Letter".

Ok, tried changing the drive letter but it still can't access the information. It says "E:\ is not accessible" and then says either "The parameter is incorrect" or something about the "semaphore timeout period". Also, the disk management tool knows the partition is there but it reports that nothing is stored there (but I have over 30GB of stuff stored there...I hope).
