Borrow a cd drive from same person you borrowed the cd from. Sounds to me like your cd drive or the cable sucks.

tried that. it cut the amount of broken files in half but there still was something wrong. i took the hd to another computer and copied all the broken files from a similiar installation and i got to the setup screen where i got a warning popup telling me that a bad parameter was passed to the lsass.exe. im thinking i go to the other computer and copy its lsass. does anyone have any more suggestions?

Did you try and change the IDE ribbon? Or did you just try a different drive.
