XP Pro Shutdown Problem (Plz Help)

Hello. I am having a problem with my PC. It shutsdown at random times as well it will not let me get into My Computer at all. I'm not sure if this is an OS problem or hardware. I have done every single spyware and antivirus program available. Got rid of all the spyware I had and it still continues to do it. It's so bad that when I go to try and format/reinstall XP from the cd it still shuts down. So I beleive this is hardware problem but I am not sure exactly. Any suggestions or help will be greatly appreciated.
