I work on a network environment and one of our users login hangs after he inserts his user name and Password. The login screen grays out and loads computer settings for about 5 minutes. The only thing posted in event viewer is listed in the system section and states that computer browser has timed out. Any ideas to get past this problem? By the way this is a desktop PC.

verify the client IP configuration; sounds like the PC can not find the LDAP server for network login.

the PC must be able to PING the server and conversely

It does. It is one the Network and after the slow login, everything is normal.

there's a known problem *IF* you have any file sharing enabled.

    if so,
    1. disable file sharing and reboot
    2. then enable file sharing and reboot again
this will correct the network attempting to accessing fileshare too soon before
DHCP has set the net config :)
