Dell Latitude with factory installed XP

Last known good configuration does not load.

The above data was collected using a live linux CD. DOS prompt is unavailable so I cannot run CHKDSK.

The last time I used it (yesterday) I was online wirelessly using AC power. I have my update options set to manual and I don't recall OK'ing any. (I didn't see any install mentioned during shutdown either). I was going to download a KDE linux image from mission mirror, but it was going too slow. I couldn't use torrent so I tried to download VUZE. It looked like I was going to get a lot of garbage so I quit without downloading anything (my intention anyway).

Are there known viruses associated with VUZE? Does VUZE have a bug that can corrupt system files? I can't see any evidence of VUZE files, but I don't have file search capability right now so its hard to check everywhere.

The hard drive seems alright as I was able to copy my most important files to a USB stick.
The last known good configuration is probably still intact, but I can't even run regedit to look at it.

Sounds like you'll have to try formatting and then re-installing XP. If the install fails you may have more clues of what is really wrong
