  1. Hi there -- I have been reading some of the posts and solutions for the "Critical System Error!" flashing icon, and tried to apply them to my machine. No luck. I'm completely frustrated and I am at the point where I have to ask for help.

Can you please tell me what I need to do?

    Thanks so much!

    Hello and welcome to Techspot.

Your system has at least one nasty infection.

Go and read the Viruses/Spyware/Malware, preliminary removal instructions. Follow all the instructions exactly.

Post fresh HJT and AVG Antispyware logs as attachments into this thread, only after doing the above.

    Regards Howard

Howard, you're a genius. No other way to put it.

I think everything's fine and dandy!

Run HJT with no other programmes open. Click the scan button. Have HJT fix the following, by placing a tick in the little box next to(if there).

    R3 - URLSearchHook: Yahoo! Toolbar - {EF99BD32-C1FB-11D2-892F-0090271D4F88} - (no file)

    O2 - BHO: Act.UI.InternetExplorer.Plugins.AttachFile.CAttachFile - {D5233FCD-D258-4903-89B8-FB1568E7413D} - mscoree.dll (file missing)

O9 - Extra button: Attach Web page to ACT! contact - {6F431AC3-364A-478b-BBDB-89C7CE1B18F6} - mscoree.dll (file missing)

O9 - Extra 'Tools' menuitem: Attach Web page to ACT! contact... - {6F431AC3-364A-478b-BBDB-89C7CE1B18F6} - mscoree.dll (file missing)

O11 - Options group: [INTERNATIONAL] International*

    O16 - DPF: {22E5D91F-89E6-4405-AD9C-0AF27BA6F06B} (HidInputMonitorX Control) - file://D:\components\hidinputmonitorx.ocx

    O16 - DPF: {4F63D44B-6274-4D60-8AB1-CAA7116B8AF3} (A9Helper.A9) - file://D:\components\A9.ocx

    O16 - DPF: {6E5E167B-1566-4316-B27F-0DDAB3484CF7} (Image Uploader Control) - http://pix.futureshop.ca/en/ImageUploader4.cab

Fix all 018-Protocol entries, except for these two entries.

    O18 - Protocol: livecall - {828030A1-22C1-4009-854F-8E305202313F} - C:\PROGRA~1\MSNMES~1\MSGRAP~1.DLL

    O18 - Protocol: msnim - {828030A1-22C1-4009-854F-8E305202313F} - C:\PROGRA~1\MSNMES~1\MSGRAP~1.DLL

Do not fix the above two 018-Protocol entries.

Click on the fix checked button.

Close HJT and reboot your system.

Other than the above none dangerous entries, your HJt log is clean.

If you have any further virus/spyware problems, please post in this thread.

I have merged your new thread into this one.

I`ve just looked at your HJT log and your system is absolutely riddled with nasties.

You have 2 choices. Either you reformat or follow these instructions exactly.

Bear in mind, given that your system is so badly infected, that even if you we try and get your system cleaned up, I make no guarantees that your system will work properly.

Go and read the Viruses/Spyware/Malware, preliminary removal instructions. Follow all the instructions exactly.

Post fresh HJT and AVG Antispyware logs as attachments into this thread, only after doing the above.

    Regards Howard :)
