More proof that humanity as a species may be doomed: a prank YouTube video claiming to show how drilling into an iPhone 7 will reveal its hidden 3.5mm headphone jack has apparently been fooling owners of Apple’s latest handset.

The viral clip, which comes from TechRax, has already gained close to 10 million viewers. According to the many comments beneath the video, a few people didn’t realized this is all a joke and have attempted the “secret hack,” which will ruin the waterproofing at best or destroy the phone at worst.

A lot of the comments that claim to have used the drill method are obviously fake and just joking about it themselves, but there are doubtlessly some who have actually given it a try - only to instantly regret it.

Ukrainian YouTuber Taras Maksimuk, who is based in Sacramento, California, produced the video. Looking at the titles of his other clips - “can the iPhone 7 survive in liquid nitrogen for five minutes?” and "What Happens If You Microwave an iPhone 7?” – shows how he “specializes in smashing technology for your pleasure.”

In the video, once the hole is drilled, music can be heard coming from the iPhone, though this is obviously coming from the speakers. But the 87,000 downvotes suggest there are at least some iPhone 7s now with DIY holes in them.

From the Xbox One backward compatibility prank, to the iOS 7 update that waterproofs iPhones, to microwaving handsets as a way of extending their battery life, this isn’t the first case of people pranking others into destroying tech, and it won’t be the last.

This is days old. Apple haters Android users will act like it's fresh though.

...this is ... beyond fantastic :-D if you are dumb enough to waste THAT much money on an iphone than you are easily stupid enough to believe you can drill through it and find a hidden headphone jack. everyone one of these *****s got exactly what they deserved.

typical iphone users.

A few iPhone users out of millions that saw that video attempted it, and that automatically means the typical iPhone user is that stupid.
Makes perfect sense, glad to see that the Android community is clearly mentally superior.

And I thought answering 'how do a I quit my group' in a video game chat with the answer 'Alt + F4' was funny...

@yRaz is right though... some people REALLY want a headphone jack.

What if it actually works?, it looks logic, same spot and everything. Saddly I don't have an iphone 7.

To be fair, if he made the same video about an android phone you'd probably be on making fun of Android users. It's all in jest, so just relax man.

There's one born every second... and that Tweeting Pommie iSheep can afford such an expensive phone considering his IQ score is probably something he'd want to keep a secret... unless he's 10 years or younger, in which case, why is his parents allowing him to play with power tools, but I digress.
Every single person on this planet can fall for a corny gag but to fall for something so blatantly corny and obvious? Hoo boy!

This was not news worthy unless there was proof anyone did this. If you can prove someone actually did this, then that would probably still not be news worthy but this certainly isn't. Youtube has a ton of this s*** videos and its not new.

No, please no. Devices aren't magical, and they have components. Why would they put a component in and then cover it so no one can use. Please.... There is nothing logical about the video.

Why would Apple say they were removing the headphone jack but then just hide it with plastic? Why would they spend money installing headphone jacks in the phones knowing they would be hidden and unusable? The whole idea is completely ridiculous. They removed the jack to free up space for other components, save money on the cost of making them (and probably so they could sell their very expensive proprietary earbuds).

This is so ridiculous I'm trying to convince myself these morons are just trying to be funny and didn't actually try this. Sadly, I know that's not true. Only Apple consumers would try something this stupid.

Hahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha, take their phones away, sterilize each of these numbnuts, & sell them my Vegas oceanside town houses pronto...WTF?! hahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha....

Maybe the part where he takes the phone and puts in the vise without any protection for the phone could have been a clue....
