Zonealarm firewall

This has been bugging me for a while now, for some reason that I cannot pin down when I boot my machine up, sometimes, about 1 in 10, all the settings I have carefully configured in the Zonealarm (free version) program control list have gone AWOL. No programs listed at all. So I have to retrain ZL again from scratch. Not the end of the world I know but a solution to this would be well received. Anyone else had same trouble?
AVG anti-virus is clean
Spybot S&D shows clean
Adaware SE shows clean
Tuneup Utilities shows a registry in good order,
Hyjackthis is nominal with no hidden data streams.
Nothing else on the machine changes.
Hardware is P4 3000 Presscott on Asrock P4v88+ mobo running xp with sp2
radaeon 9800 pro gpu
soundblaster audigy2 sound card
western digital h/d

Your problem is not unheard of with Zonealarm.

Go HERE and follow the instructions. Hopefully, that should fix it.

On a semi-related subject, can you recommend a replacement for AVG free antivirus as the nice active shield in the new free version has been done away with.

The resident shield should be installed when you install the programme.

Download the programme again and make sure you install the active shield.
