"easy to use, lack of functions"
Back in Intellipoint 4.1x and earlier there was a feature to enable you to program buttons to applications. Once 5 was hurried out it seems to have been.. \"overlooked\" Which causes much annoyance to the gaming community and likewise people who used this feature (which i understand is quite a few ;)

"Where are the features?"
The reason i paid the extra money for the explorer mouse was so that i could play games with customized buttons but the new intellipoint 5.0 has removed the ability to set the mouse buttons to keyboard keys so it can no longer be used in games! Whos stupid idea was that?!!

"This is a step back... poor programming!"
Ver. 5.0 is really a step back, most of the functions in 4.12 have been removed in 5.0 (program the buttons, different setups for different applications...), I called MS and the tech support told me that he also would like to see these functions implemented again cause he\'s used to it, too. I filed a complaint, let\'s see if MS will implement the required features in the next version...

pathetic. with minimal effort they could have allowed you to bind whatever keys you wanted to the buttons, but oh no... you cant even bind a mouse button as the third button with intellipoint v5.0!! What focus group came up with that crap??

"Definitely NOT for Gamers!!!"
I am a Gamer. When I upgraded from my wired IntelliMouse Explorer 3.0 to my wireless Explorer 2.0, I thought the better comfort, portability, enhanced battery life, and optical precision would help me out at the LAN parties, but NO! The new IntelliPoint 5.0 software is horrible! All the great features of 4.12 that made this line of mice worth buying are gone! You are no longer able to map program specific buttons and even worse… I use the side thumb button for alternate-fire on FPS games. A lot of times I need to hold down alt-fire to lay down a barrage of bullets, but with IntelliPoint 5.0 the extra buttons only work on button-up! Holding down the buttons does nothing! What’s up with that retarded change? The extra buttons don’t even work in a lot of the games like Unreal Tournament 2003 and Quake 3. Plus, if you get one of these new mice and try to downgrade to 4.12, the software doesn’t even recognize the mice and you can’t use the extra buttons at all. I hope Microsoft fires the person or persons who developed IntelliPoint 5.0 and quickly come out with the corrected 5.1 version.

"5.0 is a giant step backwards"
Cannot map forward and back buttons any more. But you MUST have 5.0 to use the new tilt wheel left/right scrolling in the Wireless Intellimouse Explorer. So this forced me to return my new Wireless Intellimouse Explorer to the store. The forward/back buttons are way more important than the new left/right scrolling

"Don\'t use this version"
Just like everyone else, after I upgraded the driver from version 4 to version 5, I discovered that I could no longer have program-specific buttons, and most of the keyboard mappings (ESC, INS, etc) are gone. I fixed it by reinstalling version 4 (do a Google search) for the setup: Uninstall the driver via Add/Remove Programs then delte intellipoint folders. **Then reboot*** When your system comes back up, reinstall the version 4 driver.

1. first look at this address : http://www.microsoft.com/hardware/mouseandkeyboard/Software.mspx 2. It says that you can assign any button on your keyboard , intellipoint 5.0 failed to deliver. 3. wheel button = middle button , intellipoint 5.0 \"forget\" on purpose? 4. side tilt? I don\'t give a damn about this shit. 5. 4th/5th button = back/forward? not zoom/unzoom? no custom settings? There\'s one thing microsoft never fail to deliver , bring a whole new lever of dissapoinment to all of it\'s customers.

"Great mouse, Bad drivers"
I\'ve change my mices from Logitech to microsoft when intellimouse explorer came. The great new feature was one more button and the possibility to bind ANY KEY to a mouse button. With intellipoint 5.0 you lost all usefull options. Dont buy a new Microsoft mouse if you want to play games. Most of them ( even DirectX ones ) dont recognize more than 3 button and wheel. Old ones NEVER. If you\'re the lucky owner of a microsoft mouse supported by intellipoint 4.x don\'t change.

"Making the middle button work"
To make the middle button work as you are used to in applications that require it, choose \'Autoscroll\' from the list of actions. I guess \'Autoscroll\' was considered to make more sense than \'middle click\' as it is how it is used if your window has vertical or horizontal scrollbars. The problem is, of course, its NOT a click action -- its a DRAG action.

"DO NOT INSTALL INTELLIPOINT 5.0"
I think MS decided to plug some holes in their apps and eventually the features in Intellipoint 4.1 will go away (XP SP2 anyone?) but there is no need to kiss them good bye before then. If you install 5.0 you will lose the M3 click scrolling and assignment of letters to the mouse buttons and the overriding of buttons on a per program basis. It is not worth it just to gain right and left wheel movement. Notice the only person so far to vote thumbs up did so accidentally. That should tell you something.
