My AT Socket 7 System running IPCOP in the middle of replacing a faulty network card.



Specs:

Some Intel Mobo (Running an AMD Processor lol)

AMD K6-2 3D 500MHz Socket 7 100MHz Bus

256MB PC100 (Under that ganglia of PATA wires)

8GB Seagate ATA-66 5400RPM

ATi Rage 3D Pro 8MB SDRAM (Upgradeable to 16MB)

Yamaha OLP-X ISA-16 Sound Card

6GB Partition (Xubuntu 7.10) / 2GB Partition (IPCOP)

I wonder what temps the CPU would get with a new heatsink and AS5?

I had an AST adventure 200 with an amd k5 133 mhz, It could actually report temps!!! It had a cpu temp, ran 29C with a little heatsink+fan and amd's excuse for heatpaste, (looks like a piece of tin foil,) stripped that off, cleaned with alcohol, and replaced with AS5, after clearing the dust, it ran about 23C under full load. Those were probalby amd's coolest cpus!

Yeah, my K62 can report temps as well, 28C Idle, 37C Load with no thermal paste at all. Yeah, the pentium 1 though was really hot though, so the K5 was built for smaller PC's.

Ya, intel had the 5.5v "coffee pot warmer" pentium 1.



And the K5 was just the predacesor to the k6, and the k6 was the predacessor to the K6-2 3d (first to have the 3dNow! instruction.) The K5 was socket 5 and 7, but the K6 was only socket 7, but the K6 was not compatable with the K5, even if they used the same socket, which meant some people had to update their bios or buy a new motherboard.

I believe support for the K6 series was "Super Socket 7", am I correct?
