Unbiased Seagate 100GB/platter HD review

Everyone's favourite PC review site <cough>, Tom's Hardware, today posted a review of Seagate’s new 7200.7 100GB/platter harddrive. Just like usual, the competitors drivers are missing from some of the graphs and the conclusion is, erm, a bit different than other sites...

With up to 64 MB/s, it even outperforms Western Digital's WD360 Raptor drive (...) With around 15 ms, the new Barracuda 7200.7 lags a bit compared to its competition (...) The new Barracuda 7200.7 with 200 GB is an excellent hard drive with low noise levels and a fast data transfer rate. And that is what you need most in a typical desktop environment*.

*Where "typical desktop environment" does not mean at all, reading small fragmented files where short access times is extremely more important than high sustained transfer rate. Educate yourself and go read Tom's review (bring a wheelbarrow of salt though).
