Longhorn will be compatible with blue laser DVD

By Derek Sooman

Microsoft has announced that Longhorn will be compatible with the High Definition blue laser DVD from NEC and Toshiba. The standard is also backed by the DVD Forum.

The existing and alternative Blu-Ray spec is already streets ahead, and is backed by Hewlett-Packard and Dell. It is unlikely that this spec will not be supported by Longhorn as well, however this has not yet been decided.

  1. I was wondering that too, wouldn't it just be down to doing Drivers for the Blu-Ray drive in order for Longhorn to support it.
  2. Microsoft will support whatever becomes the dominant and accepted standard.Or. Microsoft will decide what becomes the dominant and accepted standard. One or the other.
