Microsoft returns attention to Longhorn

By Derek Sooman

Now that the task of pushing out Windows XP SP2 is over, Microsoft is focusing its energies on Longhorn, the next major revision of Windows. There will be a long, long wait between Windows XP and Lonhorn - much longer perhaps than we have ever waited for a Windows revision before. And so Microsoft is faced with additional challenges in the intervening time, such as continuing to market Windows XP and make it look fresh, when it may soon start to look long in the tooth. And when will Lonhorn actually appear? No one can say, certainly not Microsoft. Perhaps 2006, but don't hold your breath. 2007 or even 2008 sounds more likely.
