Intel to release new Pentium 4 model

By Derek Sooman

On September 1, 2004, 12:53 PM

There's a strong suggestion that new, mainsteam level Pentium 4 chips will be coming out, based on the Pentium 4 Extreme Edition and packing 2MB of in-core L2 cache. This Pentium 4 6xx series may well debut early next year.

More like a Pentium 4 than a Xeon, the new chip will be the first 90nm P4EE, and will be the first P4EE to carry a model number. Clock speeds of up to and over 4GHz are expected.
