Yahoo! to Buy Musicmatch

By Derek Sooman on September 14, 2004, 2:17 PM
So much going on in the online music scene at the moment.... why do I not know anyone actually buying any? Anyway, looks like Yahoo! is to Buy Musicmatch. Yes, the deal was announced this morning, and so Yahoo! will join the ranks of Microsoft and others in trying to make us pay for things we can currently download for free. But since that's illegal and also not likely to go on in its present form forever either, its good to watch these services and how they develop. You can bet that some company like Microsoft or Yahoo! will eventually hit it off with something everyone who likes music will want to pay for. Perhaps Kazaa will be shutdown and reopened by Warner Bros. Who knows? There is certainly plenty of action in this market right now, so watch this space.
