The future of Dell and AMD

"AMD has been getting much better at turning out their technology, and their technology has improved." - Kevin Rollins, Dell's CEO.

Some speculation in this article about the future of AMD and Dell. Will Dell incorporate Opteron or Athlon chips into their systems? Are AMD really an alternative to Intel for a company like Dell? Certainly, Dell has plenty of fine things to say about AMD and its chips, claiming that the "technology gap" between Intel and AMD is closing, and praising the firm for being the first to launch the first 32-bit/64-bit chips. Dell even feels that AMD may beat Intel to the punch with multicore CPUs as well.

"You could argue that in those two particular cases, they (AMD) are leading." - Jeff Clarke, senior vice president of the Dell Product Group.
