"Is this just a buzz thing or a fad? It's hard to tell, but it has to be encouraging if you are the Mozilla Firefox guys that [IE's losses] have gone on for about five months." - WebSideStory analyst Geoff Johnston.

Not for the first time, IE has taken a market-share hit, with the Microsoft browser loosing nearly a percentage point in market share in the past seven weeks. Total market-share loss since the decline of IE first began in early June now stands at almost 3 percent. Market-share for the browser dropped to 92.9 percent as of Oct. 29.

It should come as no surprise that Firefox is benefiting from these declines in IE market-share. The question is, are we witnessing the end of an empire, or just a passing fad? Will Firefox topple IE, or will it soon be yesterday's news?
