Intel will be updating its 64-bit Itanium 2 processor family with the introduction of six new "Madison core" CPUs. These will likely be the last ever single core Itanium CPUs, before the line moves over to "Montecito", which will have two cores on a single processor. Intel still believes that it is on course to delivering Montecito later next year, with the main push coming in 2006. Samples of Montecito have already been distributed to OEMs.
