AMD targets notebook market with budget chips

Notebooks are getting cheaper, and you can get a not too bad one for little more than a top of the range iPaq, but hopefully AMD will help to make them even cheaper. They have started to ship the Sempron 3000+ chip for budget notebooks, and will be selling the chips at $134 in quantities of 1,000. They will be used to build notebooks from Packard Bell and Gericom, destined for customers in the EU. AMD has had little impact in the notebook arena thus far, but all that may change.
