ATI launches mobile PCI Express GPUs for notebooks
"ATI today launched its Mobility Radeon X800 to offer desktop graphics performance for high-end PCI Express notebooks. The manufacturer also introduced the X300, an entry level mobile GPU for mainstream and thin & light notebooks."
Notebooks take another leap today, the first time because of AMD targeting the notebook market with the Sempron 3000+, and now again as ATI launches mobile PCI Express GPUs. In order to defend against Intel's Nvidia's GeForce Go 6800, ATI have launched the Mobility Radeon X800 (based on the X600 Pro desktop GPU), as well as the budget X300. Both come with twelve pixel pipes and support for GDDR3 memory. Early benchmarks suggest that the X800 plays a mean game of FarCry, but was a tad lacking in the Doom 3 department.
