A new working group called The VOIP Security Alliance has been put together, with the aim of preventing security issues with VoIP (Voice Over Internet Protocol). Initiated by TippingPoint, a division of 3Com, VOIPSA includes 22 members from companies and research bodies such as Avaya, Siemens, Symantec, Southern Methodist University and Columbia University. The group aims to promote and accelerate IP telephony take up, but also aims to deliver that take up in a way that is secure and reliable.

"As a charter member, we believe it is our duty to advance this alliance and its principles for the betterment of VoIP security." - Dave Hattey, 3Com vice president and general manager.
