Intel has released its first WiMax product in the form of the PRO/Wireless 5116 broadband interface. Formerly known as "Rosedale", the technology is based on the IEEE 802.16-2004 standard, which should bring wireless broadband Internet access to end-users beyond Wi-Fi range and speed. Intel has said that it believes that the technology will eventually come to augment and complement 3G mobile phone networks, and should help provide seamless wireless Internet access for applications.
