Up to 50,000 users of Zone Labs' ZoneAlarm firewall experienced crashes after some buggy updates were released. The problems occurred on Thursday when the Check Point owned company released Program Advisor updates. These updates maintain a list of programs the firewall is told to ignore, and are updated automatically. Problems with this caused True Vector-related crashes.

The faulty update was made available around 4 p.m. Pacific Time on Thursday. Zone Labs discovered the issue after customers began reporting crashes. The problem was replicated in the software maker's security lab and resolved within five hours, according to a posting on Zone Labs' Web site.

The company posted a corrected Program Advisor update late on Thursday. Customers who rebooted their PCs automatically received that new version.
